Wedding thank you notes are customarily sent on formal stationery, most often ordered to match your wedding invitations. However, it's fine to use a less formal note. The main requirement is that you do send thank you notes for wedding gifts! The current guidelines for wedding gift thank you notes are that the notes should be sent within three months of receipt of gifts. So that you don't have too many to write after the wedding, it's great if you can send your thank you notes as the gifts arrive. There's no need to write something false, if you dislike a gift. If something is not to your taste, you should still show appreciation for the thought that went into selecting it for you. You can always say "Thank you for the thoughtful ______(fill in the blank). I will think of you whenever I use it."
